In the ever-evolving world of interior design, this year you’ll see several captivating trends that will help to redefine our living spaces in 2024. As we navigate a post-pandemic era, our homes continue to take on a greater significance which is prompting a number of shifts.

[Pin it for Later!]

2024 Interior Design Trends

1. HOLISTIC HOMES AND SUSTAINABILITY
As building and furniture costs rise, and environmental worries grow, homeowners are leaning towards holistic designs. Rather than constructing new homes, many are choosing to revamp their existing spaces, using renewable materials and refurbished furniture and decor to bring sustainability into their design choices while still maintaining style.

2. MULTI-FUNCTIONAL SPACES
Creating multifunctional spaces within homes continues to be commonplace in 2024.  With homes serving as offices, classrooms and sanctuaries, the need for versatile spaces has became more popular. Homeowners continue to seek spaces that can adapt to their daily routines whether it's remote work or family gatherings. Expect to see underutilized areas of a home become an office or study space or, in smaller homes, expect to see one room to be creatively designed so that it functions as two.

Based on the aforementioned trend, you may have guessed that the popularity of monochromatic, all-white kitchens is fading in 2024.  Instead, people are opting for saturated colors paired with neutrals or natural wood tones for their kitchens.  Expect to see rich browns, smoky blues and deep red tones that help to inject personality and charm within a kitchen space.

19. COLOR DRENCHING a.k.a MONOCHROMATIC COLOR SCHEMES
Monochromatic colors schemes became popular in 2023 and they continue to remain on trend for 2024.  Choosing a "mostly" monochromatic color palette for a space makes helps to focus attention on the “feeling” of a room rather than all of the pieces within it.  To effectively execute this design trend it's important to vary the tints, shades and tones within the chosen color to create interest and depth. The use of “color drenching” remains popular because it creates intentional boldness that is eye-catching and interesting.

20. LESS FOCUS ON OPEN CONCEPT DESIGNS
With more homes needing to serve as offices and study spaces and more entertaining happening at home, distinct zones are becoming more important in interior design. People are done with sharing one big space with everyone to do everything.  They want space to think and focus.  As a result, expect to see new home floorplans that include more defined spaces that cater to various the various activities that are being conducted within a home.  And in homes that already exist, expect to see creative ways to create dedicated spaces within unused or underutilized areas to provide more function overall.
