Breaking news for all colour enthusiasts - Benjamin Moore has officially released their Paint Colour of the Year for 2022! So exciting! Colour is so crucial and such a fun element to experiment with when styling your home.
This year Benjamin Moore chose a colour that created a beautiful connection with other colours - which is kind of a metaphor for the connection people are craving after several months of the pandemic. “October Mist is a soft, likable sage green that could act as a bridge to a rainbow of colors,” said Andrea Magno, director of color marketing and development (source).
Today we’re showing you how to use Benjamin Moore’s 2022 Colour of the Year to Create a Home Paint Colour Scheme in Your Home.
October Mist is a gentle sage green that creates a beautiful wash of colour that is subtle and versatile. It’s understated and neutral, invoking a feeling of quietness and calm. Because of its neutral nature, October Mist provides a wonderful backdrop for other colours to shine.
This shade of green is nothing short of beautiful and is reminiscent of lush meadows and the serene outdoors. It’s the perfect colour choice for any space as a foundational colour to aid in a relaxing, calming environment.
Here are some ways to incorporate the 2022 Colour of the Year by Benjamin Moore into the colour scheme of your home.

I’m loving the trend toward green this year and October Mist is no exception. I ALWAYS incorporate green into a space, whether it’s greenery, art, decor or otherwise. If you’ve been following along with me for a while you know that light, bright and cozy neutrals are my favourite paint colours for walls. What you probably don’t know is that my next favourite colour to paint walls is some sort of green. I love green for its calmness (and with the right shade, it can also be cozy and inviting). So with that in mind, here’s how I chose to incorporate the 2022 Colour of the Year into a home.
As I mentioned, the right shade of green can be cozy and inviting while also being calm. October Mist embodies this feeling entirely. As a result, I’ve chosen to use it as the wall colour of the Living Room. It’ll feel comfortable for family and friends and provide a gorgeous contrast with natural leather and warm wood tones.
Since the vibe I’m creating is calm, cozy and inviting, I wanted to choose a white that emulates this feeling as well. Swiss Coffee is a warm, creamy white that will be perfect for trim, doors and cabinets.
I like a light kitchen for prepping and preparing food, so I’ve chosen Gray Mist for the wall colour there as well as in the dining room, entry and hallways. Gray Mist will coordinate beautifully with October Mist and Swiss Coffee as it’s a warm, soft gray with just a hint of green in the undertone.
To make a statement, I’m using Kendall Charcoal to create a bold contrast in the kitchen via the island. Kendall Charcoal is a deep, velvety gray that will add richness to the space.
And finally, I’ve chosen Moonshine for the primary bedroom and ensuite. Moonshine is a gentle gray with a blue-green undertone. It’s perfect for creating a serene, tranquil environment and pairs beautifully with several varieties of wood, tile and stone products.
This is just one way to incorporate Benjamin Moore’s Colour of the Year 2022 into your home. Check out how the rest of the team at Orangetree Interiors uses October Mist as their home paint colour scheme inspiration below.

"Benjamin Moore’s 2022 COTY is a mid-tone sage green that works in almost every style home, and coordinates with a wide range of colours. The subtlety of “October Mist” truly evokes a wonderful feeling and creates a sense of tranquility in a space, which is why I chose to use this colour on kitchen cabinets. When paired with a true classic, “Chantilly Lace”, as the main wall colour in the kitchen, the sage green is a perfect contrast that add interest and serves as an accent colour in the space.
Adding warmth into a space is essential as well, which is why “White Opulence” by Benjamin Moore is a great colour to use in main living areas. Not only does this warmer paint colour contrast the cool colours used in the kitchen, warmer colours tend to be more stimulating which would go best in rooms where lots of activities are performed.
The last two paint colours I chose are “Lenox Tan” and “Salamander” by Benjamin Moore. These colours perfectly complement each other as they play off of one another’s intensity. I would choose to use these colours in home offices or as accent walls, creating a bold and sophisticated space." ~ Irah Acaban

“I created this neutral colour palette around Benjamin Moore's Colour of the Year for 2022, October Mist, and I am really loving the gentle and serene atmosphere it creates. Since I’m drawn to neutral spaces with rustic, contemporary styling with touches of Mediterranean influences, this colour palette creates a neutral space and is the perfect anchor for a variety of textures.
For the main living areas such as the kitchen, living room, dining room, and entryway I’ve used Benjamin Moore’s Simply White to create the best backdrop for accent colour, October Mist, to contrast with other colours and textures.
In the primary bedroom, to add depth and warmth to the room, Halo by Benjamin Moore is the perfect colour. Paired with ivory linens, and natural wood tones this space will feel like a relaxing retreat.
To add contrast to the otherwise neutral kitchen, I decided to paint the cabinets in the colour Nimbus to create a nice contrast. Although still a neutral colour, painting the cabinetry this dusty greige adds more visual interest to the space.
October Mist is a great accent wall colour in any space, such as a bedroom, mudroom, bathroom or even along a wall to feature a piece of art or gallery wall. This sage hue acts as the perfect anchor to introduce a splash of colour without being too intense. When used as an accent in a home, it creates cohesion by connecting with greenery throughout a home.
Finally, I’ve chosen Benjamin Moore’s Dragon's Breath to create the perfect moody, at-home office space. I love featuring office spaces in homes with built-in cabinetry, mouldings, and of course, a moody dark colour. Dragon’s Breath is the perfect dark brown hue to achieve this atmosphere, and pairs nicely with the rest of the colours in this neutral home paint colour palette." ~ Alyssa Wright
