It's that time of year again. Our favourite paint companies start releasing the colour of the year for their brand and predict which colours will be most popular in the upcoming year.
Today we’re talking about Sherwin-Williams’ 2022 Colour of the Year and how you can use it in your home.
I have to admit, I was super excited when I found out the Evergreen Fog was the colour of the year for 2022. First, because I LOVE incorporating green in a space whether it’s by adding plants and florals to bring a space life or through paint and decor to create a relaxed, calming vibe.
Evergreen Fog is a beautiful, muted, neutral green that is soothing and a perfect choice whether you’re creating a casual or sophisticated ambience for your space. In a time when we’re spending so much time indoors, Evergreen Fog brings the outdoors into your home interior creating a connection with nature while embracing renewal and a longing for positive change.
Here are four different designer perspective's on how to incorporate Sherwin Williams’ Colour of the Year 2022 into your home.

As I mentioned, I love incorporating green in a space whether it’s by adding plants to bring a space life or through paint or inspiration for furniture and decor. The colour scheme I ‘ve chosen consists of a bright, true white as the base for trim, doors and cabinetry. High Reflective White is my favourite white by Sherwin Williams as it always provides a beautifully clean contrast to whichever other paint colours I pair with it.
While Evergreen Fog can be used in virtually any space of your home, I’ve chosen to use it in the home office because it helps relax, de-stress and revitalize a person’s psyche.
To coordinate with the 2022 colour of the year, I’ve used White Duck in the main spaces. White Duck is an off-white paint colour with warm grey undertones. It pairs well with the other colours I’ve chosen while adding modernism to a space.
Next, I’ve chosen Silverpointe for the master bedroom and ensuite. Silverpointe is a subtle blue-green paint colour that is peaceful and calming - perfect for a bedroom.
And lastly, Iron Ore. Iron Ore is a gorgeous black paint colour that is rich and impactful, but not as intense as other black paint colours. It’s a great option for cabinetry (as I’m using it for a kitchen island), a moody wall colour or as an inspiration reference for furniture and decor.
This is just one way to incorporate Sherwin Williams Colour of the Year 2022 into your home. Check out how the rest of the team at Orangetree Interiors uses Evergreen Fog as their interior design inspiration below.

“I created this colour scheme around the 2022 SW Colour of the Year, Evergreen Fog. I am usually drawn to neutrals such as white, black, and grey in terms of paint colours so I wanted to create a home paint colour scheme where Evergreen Fog, a darker green with grey undertones, could be used but still align with my neutral design style.
I chose Pure White for the trim, doors and ceiling and Spare White for the main walls. I like a white base; it's clean, crisp and is a great backdrop for fun pops of colour through art, furniture and decor.
For the master bedroom I chose Conservative Gray. It’s still a neutral colour, but adds a bit of coziness for this restful space.
I think Evergreen Fog is a really pretty green. I love that it’s understated and natural, making it feel more like a neutral. I would use this paint colour for an accent wall, a cabinet colour or as a beautiful front door colour.
A black accent wall can be so dramatic and Black of Night is a classic black that can really make a statement. I would love to use this paint colour on an accent wall with contemporary millwork for a cool, modern vibe.”
ALYSSA’S 2022 COLOUR OF THE YEAR HOME PAINT COLOUR SCHEME
“With the new release of Sherwin Williams’ Colour of the Year 2022, Evergreen Fog, I decided to create a neutral colour palette that suits my neutral, rustic contemporary interior design style with hints of Mediterranean influence. Although I usually tend to gravitate towards neutral browns, whites, creams and blacks, Evergreen Fog is a perfect green paint colour that is muted and modern. In certain lighting this colour looks nearly grey and is a great choice for a sophisticated home with character.
For trim, doors and ceilings I would use Extra White by Sherwin Williams and would couple it with Spare White for walls. These two colours paired together create a clean, neutral canvas for the other colours to take center stage.
Evergreen Fog is a great accent colour for millwork used throughout or selectively in a home in areas such as the mudroom, laundry room, bathroom or a feature wall in a bedroom. When used intentionally throughout a home through decor or other accents, this colour creates a natural vibe with depth and dimension.
Another paint colour that adds personality to a space is Gauntlet Gray. It too would look amazing on millwork to create a dramatic impact, but I’ve chosen to use it in a powder room for a moody feel.
Finally, I’ve chosen Peppercorn as my final accent colour to use throughout an interior space. Since I am drawn to contemporary styles with rustic and Mediterranean influences, having a dark charcoal colour for contrast is an amazing way to finish a space. Peppercorn would look great as an island colour paired with light countertops if I have my choice!”

“The colour green is very much associated with nature which evokes the feeling of calmness, peacefulness and growth. Sherwin Williams’ 2022 colour of the year does exactly that. Studies show that the colour green helps us become more motivated and creative, therefore, I would use this paint colour in the office or playroom of a home.
The paint colour ”Opaline” is a soft neutral colour with a subtle green undertone. Due to green’s association with nature and its calming effects, I would use this paint colour in a master bedroom or in a living room depending on the vibe you want to create.
The next paint colour that I chose is Pure White. This white paint colour is a true classic. It is not overpowering which is great for highlighting pops of colours around the home. I would use this paint colour in a kitchen or dining room.
The last two colours I chose for this home paint colour scheme are Artisan Tan and Urbane Bronze. These darker, bolder colours are a great way to incorporate accents throughout a home. I’d use these colours on an accent wall, in built-ins or cabinetry or even pieces of furniture and decor that have similar tones.”
As you can see Evergreen Fog is an extremely versatile paint colour. It’s calming, sophisticated and comforting all rolled into one, while bringing optimism for a new, better life to come. It’s no wonder Sherwin Williams chose it as their 2022 Colour of the year. It truly is a perfect choice.
